It’s weird to say, but the most persistent thought that I had while in Edinburgh was “Scotland is exactly what I imagined it to be”.
Let me explain.
You know how a lot of the time when you visit new places, you think it to be a certain way, but in reality it ends up being completely different from what you imagined? Well this was not the case for me with Edinburgh, in fact, it was pretty funny to me how similar it was to how I imagined.
Which was totally fine because I imagined it to be amazing… and it was!
Cobblestone walkways, bagpipes, pubs, Loch Ness monster references, plaid everything, shops selling kilts, it was all there.
I realize that a lot of this has to do with the fact that Edinburgh is a tourist town, and for the most part we spent most of our time hanging out in these high traffic tourist areas, so of course they capitalize on much of the traditional things that Scotland is known for.
But I just found it funny that what I assumed would be my own stereotypical expectation of Edinburgh ended up being super similar to the reality. All in all, Edinburgh was a ton of fun and it was pretty hard to say goodbye to this rad town we had gotten to explore for a few days.
